The last time I went in to see my eye doctor, I asked him if I would be able to have the lasik eye surgery. He said that because my vision is so bad that I wouldn't be able to have it. I can't see the big E on the top of the chart without my contacts or glasses. Isn't the surgery to make your eyes better so why wouldn't I be able to have it?

i dont trust normal eye doctors opinions on lasik, because they do not want you to get it because they lose money. if you get lasik u wont need to buy glasses or contacts from them, and wont have as common of visits for checkups most likely. Unless they are in a referral system with a lasik doctor to make some extra $, I dont see any eye doc actually telling you to get it done...go to a lasik eye doctor and see what they say...goodluck...I think u should be ok to get it...I dont even think i could of seen that it was an E on the chart....let alone a chart. haha. i was -3.75 and -3.5 in my eyes, and i came out 20/20 and 20/15 but can read 20/10 together somehow haha.

I have said the same thing as Scion from the beginning. All of my old regular eye docs (I have a new one now) told me that I was not a candidate for lasik. They swore by it. They told my that my astigmatism was my problem. I can only trust the one that told me that about 3 or 4 years ago because, my lasik doc told me that if I had gone to them 2-3 years previously (I am almost a year since my surgery now), they would have had to turn me away because of my astigmatism. Any other eye doc that told me that I wasn't a candidate, was lying or misinformed. So, go see a lasik doc. Only they can and will tell you for sure if you are a good candidate! They have tests that they will run. And, just to be sure that the opposite is not true where your reg doc wants to keep you buying lenses from them, and that a lasik doc doesn't just want you to buy the surgery from them, go to a few reputable doctors. Ask lots of questions. Be cautious but, don't give up just yet!

I wasn't a candidate for lasik. a lasik center that offers 20/20 or free guarantee turned me away and said that they cannot guarantee that i would have 20/20 vision. my vision was -10.25 in both eyes. i had thin corneas so i wouldn't be able to get an enhancement. i had very large pupils so i would have problems with night vision. i had astigmatism. i'm sure there were a few other problems with my eyes. i had a doctor tell me that if i was her sister she would not do the surgery on me. i found a doctor who worked with what i had. we went with prk (although it is not typically done on patients with such bad vision) to help preserve enough cornea thickness in case i needed an enhancement. i have just enough for one enhancement. Two months after surgery my vision was 20/20. NOw nine months later I am still dealing with my night vision but that has slowly improved over the months. i am happy with the results. they are better than i had hoped for. i went in with realistic expectations. i wasn't expecting a miracle. even if i didn't come out with 20/20 vision, i would wear a thinner pair of glasses. before the surgery i wore contacts all the time because i couldn't deal with my glasses.
