OK so my son was on Respirdol a couple weeks ago and four days after he started the Respirdol he came out with a rash. Our Dr. Told us to keep up with is as it might go away but when we increased the dose it got worse so we took him off of it. The rash started as a red bumpy rash but now it is more like ezema all over his body and is still really bad after being off it for almost two weeks. Can this still be from the Respirdol?? I am worried for him

thanks

I am not sure about Resperidal ,But I know when my son has allerigic reaction to antibotics (he's allergic to all thus far) that is one of the things that happens to him. He is still on it? Is it helping him , and was he on anything else befor that. The reason I am asking my 4 year old is on Colodine and Ritilian . The Dr wants to change him to Resperidone (Reseridol) and Adderall, and have him take his Colodine only at bedtime. Does the Resperidone help with him resting also? Sorry I couldnt be of help , but as I said Trent always breaks out with antibotics. Thanks Jenna

My 5 year old son Jace has been on Risperdal for a little over a year. He has never had any problems with it as long as it is at a very low dose, .25 mg. to .5 mg. Depending on the day and how hes feeling. I am kinda suprised that the doc left your son on it since, (I was told anyway) for Risperdal, a rash is more like a allergic reation than a side effect. Hope your son starts feeling better real soon! I have had some trouble with rashes with my oldest son Logan with the medicine Straterra. The rash went away and came back whenever it felt like it so he didn't last very long on that medicine. I wish you all the luck in the world!!! I know how difficult it really is to find the right meds. Its a hit and miss situation!

Risperdal helps really well with sleeping. When Jace was four he was also on Clonidine for sleeping and when they switched him to his Risperdal they were able to take him off of his Clonidine with no trouble. By the way, Jace isen't Autistic, hes Bipolar. I just have a good background with stimulants and antipsychotics. My kids and I have really been through the ringer with meds! I am just hopeing it wont be that way with Tyler when hes older. I already have 2 kids I have to keep up with as far as meds! lol

Oh and be careful with Risperdal. It was never properly tested for children. (Not that many drugs are really) Not trying to scare you, just wanted to let you know. It isen't FDA approved but is being used a lot more often nowadays with little to no problems for the most part.

Hope that helps!

Sincerely, April

Shooks,

Why do they want to change the little guy from Ritalin to Adderall? Is the Ritalin not working out very well on him? We are in the middle of a switch to Adderall also, except Jace was on it before and it didn't work out at all. Since hes a year older and a year heavier (lol) they want to try again.

I was just a little curious. Thanks, April
