View Full Version : Dealing with my wife's depression

Hello All,

When my wife is depressed (usually lasts 4 days or so) I have a difficult time being around her. I have realized that nothing I can do helps her, which makes me feel helpless (as I am sure she feels as well). I don't want to be around her when she is depressed, but I feel guilty leaving her alone.

How do I not feel guilty?

and

Is it ok to leave her alone when she gets depressed? (she's not suicidal, just very sad and negative when the depression hits her which is difficult to be see)

.....thanks in advance for any advice

Owen

Hey Owen,
Is your wife's problem related to her periods? Like PMS? If she gets this way about the same time every month it could be hormonal. Most women get moody and teary about a week before their period. I get mine for the entire week AFTER my period. Mostly just feeling like crying, irritable etc. Just be patient with her and don't abandon her entirely. Be in the house in another room or in the yard, garage etc. so she can get a hug if she needs one. Good Luck.

HI Owen,

Aren't you a great husband for wanting to help your wife during those times! My dh and I have gotten it down to when I'm having a hard time I tell him what I want. Sometimes it's to be left alone and sometimes I need his attention.

Encourage your wife to tell you what she needs during these times. I hope this helps.
