With all these depressed people hasn't anyone tried DL Phenylanine? It is an amino acid what helps depression, relieves pain, and helps some to lose weight.

Oops! Should be phenylalanine!

Goodgirl,

Always interested in alternative meds but couldn't

Here is the information I have on it:

L-Phenylalanine is often used to treat depression. It produces neurotransmitters,it is used by the brain to manufature Norepinephrine, and aids in memory, learning and obesity.Because of it's action in the centeral nervous system, this amino acid elevates moods, enables the individual to overcome depression and decreases pain associated with migrains, menstruation, and arthritis.L-Phenylalanine should not be used by pregnant women or those who suffer from anxiety attacks, high blood pressure,PKU(phenylketonuria) or Melanoma(type of cancer).

Just thought I'd share that information http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

P.S. Try a search under amino acids!

Good for you Spongy, you beat me to it.
Yep, it can help. And a definate 'nope' to the list of conditions Spongy shared.
It can raise blood pressure and those with a PKU problem cannot metabolise this amino and will find themselves in trouble if they take it.
BTW, it is also part of what makes aspartame what it is, so those of you who have the conditions Spongy listed (the negative ones) then sugar free with aspartame is not for you.

Sorry about that thought you were refering to L-phenylalanine not DL-Phenylalanine.

DL-Phenylalanine is very affective in the control of pain especaily those with arthritis. It funtions as a building block for all amino acids, increases menal alertness, suppresses the appitite and aids in Parkinsons disease.Use with caution if you are pregnant or diabetic,or if you have high blood pressure.Do not use it if you suffer from anxiety attacks.

L-Phenylalanine would be better than DL-Phenylalanine.
But even more recomended is L-Tyrosine it works for anxiety and depression.I posted about it on the anxiety board a while back.(check it out)

Hope that helps Spungy http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

What I meant by "go college bio class" was that "phenylalanine" was a word I remembered from my college bio class.
