Alot of times pain caused in the intestines are due to spasms or cramping. Then they go away and no medical testing ever finds the reason.
I have had similar pains and I think they are cause by lack of magnesium in your system. Every cell in your body contains magnesium including all muscle tissure and it is estimated by some experts that because of our diets and food like veggies that are grown in magnesium depleted soil that we are 80% deficient.
You could try taking a Magnesium supplement several times daily. The daily recommended allowance is 400mg. Taking it in divided dose increases the absorption.
An excellent homeopathic remedy for spasms and cramping is -- Magnesia Phos. -- that can be bought at a health food store. Just take it as needed.
But, it does not replace the need for too little magnesium in your cells.
You could get your doctor to run a blood test for magnesium--a procedure called an intracellular magnesium screen is best (mononuclear) is more sensitive than a regular blood test--- a low level of magnesium makes all ailments worse. It is certainly worth a try!!
I wish you well---Harry

Im no expert by any stretch of the imagination but might it be jsut your IBS? I also have IBS and I know that the pain can be excrutiating at times. I too have felt this sharp pain which renders me unable to breathe and move etc a number of times.
Diverticulitis can get really painful. Have you taken your temperature lately, might be an infection going on in one of those pockets in your colon. What Harry says is true though, low mag. can give you spasms. I'd look into getting a doc that cares more.

Doesn't the pain related to IBS go away to some degree by having a BM???
