Has anyone had plastic surgery and didnt quit smoking before the procedure? I know with certain type's of surgery it is vital to quit beforehand. I was wondering about scar revision and labiaplasty......if it is necessary to quit before the surgery. I know it is probably the best to quit....but has anyone had these type's of surgery and smoked? I spoke with my ps about labiaplasty and he told me that i didnt have to quit for that type of surgery....................BUT with tummy tuck and breast surgery you definately have to! Just wondering if anyone has had ps and continued to smoke????

I quit a week before my TT surgery and sneaked one or two a day up till the day before. I survived. BUT my surgeon immediately knew I started again when he checked my scar (it was very red). He told me it would not heal "properly" if I continued to smoke; so I "quit" again smoking only one when I just had to have one. As you well know (and me too) we all need to quit but ohhhhhhhhh it is so hard!! My shameful trick was to have a puff and then put it out. Wasted a lot of money doing that but it got me through the tough times. The other reason why they want you to quit is for the anesthesia/breathing tube.
I'm right now planning a breast lift and will be quitting once again but oh I am really hoping I can seriously quit for good this time but time will tell.
Take care and good luck!!

Quitting was the HARDEST thing i ever had to do!!! Made it 6 months. After my surgery (after i healed) i started again...........cuz i was soooo upset about the healing and the results! My PS thought maybe my healing had to do with my history of smoking. I was a heavy smoker for 15 years (smoking for 18yrs). I DID quit 8 weeks before surgery and still had tramatic results. People say quitting smoking is like getting off heroin.............Well they are right!!
