I'm new to this forum but not to Hysterectomy or Menopause. ..that is for sure. I had to have a TVH at 27. So, that pretty much put me into Menopause 20 something years early. I'm now almost 37...next month. Ever since then I've had urinary incontinence and urgency really bad. I've brought it up to several of my providers over the course of the years. At one point I wouldn't even know when I had to go. It would just HIT me and as soon as I'd start to walk it would leak out. At times I'd empty my entire bladder before being able to get to the restroom. Not good when your in the retail bussiness. I'm medically retired from the Army and due to several disabilities, I no longer work but anywho..........
So, recently I brought it up to my doc and GYN. I was also having cystitis and urninary infections. I was sent to Urologist. I was put on 2mg of Ditropan a day. It gave me MAJOR dry mouth. It didn't matter how much I drank. It didn't go away. At one point I had even lost weight because I couldn't eat due to the dry mouth. I was then given some yucky oral rinse stuff that tasted like syrup of epicat. Then I had an IVP done with the Radiaologist. That was fine. Then put on Detral LA 2mg once a day.
I was to come back for a Cysto Gram because the med still was not controlling the urgency to go all the time. They wanted to make sure I didn't have any cancerous tumers inside the bladder or anything. I HOPE I NEVER HAVE TO HAVE ONE DONE AGAIN!!!!! I was then put on 4mg. a day. It still seems like I have to go a lot. Not as much as before or 3 times in the middle of the night. They said my bladder hasn't dropped but I don't understand one thing. How could something not get stretched when I had a vaginal hysterectomy? Has anyone else had bladder problems after hysto or am I the only one?

I haven't had this, but I've been reading about hysterectomies since I'll be having one next week (TAH). I read that bladder injuries are more common in vaginal hysts. than they are in abdominal hysts.

I'm so sorry you are having to go through all this. My sister also has had bladder issues and finally got a resolution after her second bladder suspension surgery. The first was a bladder sling that apparently didn't work, and the second was a Burch procedure. She seems to be fine now.

I hope you will be able to get this resolved...no one should have to live like that. My thoughts are with you.

By the way, I'm curious about the cystogram...didn't they give you any anesthesia or medication to keep you comfortable?

Actually I had nothing of the sort for my Cysto. As a matter of fact I'm lying there in sturrups and the nurse that was setting me up gets a call on her cell phone. So, here she is talking on her cell phone while I'm lying on my back , feet in sturrups while she's prepping me.....as I'm looking at the ceiling. How very unprofessional!!! I'm looking at all those instruments and thinking.................. OMG!!! I wanted to ask her some questions but couldn't because she was on a personal call on her cell phone!!! :nono:
I'm the type of person that likes to know the who, what , when and where. Since I used to work in a hosp. I like to know what they are doing next. The doctor walked in and thought the nurse was talking to me. Then realized she was on a personal call. I made it a point to let my doc know that it was VERY unprofessional of her. Imagine how you'd feel. Sheesh!!!

So, are you saying you don't want to have the test again because of the doctor being unprofessional, or that it was painful? I guess I'm confused. There is a chance, if things don't work out with my hysterectomy, that I'll have to be checked for interstitial cystitis, and I believe a cystogram is something I'd have to have. Maybe I'm thinking of a cystoscope. I'm afraid of these tests they do without medication...they say that it'll only "pinch" or hurt for a "second", then you find out what big liars they are.

I can't believe that doctor was on the phone! I don't think I'd be able to put up with that. You pay good money for their time...it should be devoted to you!
