View Full Version : Question on the "every other day" BD

Ok, so I'm taking Clomid and I took my ovulation kit this morning and there's a big ole dark line there. I'm also very crampy today so it looks like ovulation is beginning. My question is - the dr originally told me to bd every other day for a week (no my dh has not been tested so it's not for any definitive reason). We did the bd last night, so that means we aren't suppose to again until tomorrow...but with all this new information today (the kit and the crampys) should I be bding tonight too or wait until tomorrow?

Any thoughts on this? I don't want to miss a potential fertile time here, but don't want to do it too often if I shouldn't be.

Thanks so much!! :)

I say do it - especially since you got the + OPK!! I got a real dark line this afternoon, as well and we're going for it - probably tomorrow, too ;)

Hi! Not trying to go against the grain here, but my doc told me every other day is the best way to go. Apparently, sperm can live up to 3 days in the woman's body, so the thinking is to refresh every other day to make sure the little guys are there when the egg makes her appearance. Apparently, the cervical mucus helps move them up to the egg, and the seminal fluid helps to keep the sperm alive and well-fed while they're waiting (once they reach their destination)!

Also, don't know if it's true, but I heard that if you do it every day the man may not make enough--he needs that extra day to sufficiently "recharge" his supply. I would say that if your doc is telling you every other day, then follow his/her advice. Good luck and baby dust to all!

A day of rest does help the sperm to build back up, but then again if she ovulates tonight then bding tonight will only improve her chances of pregnancy. After she ovulates its too late so need for the sperm to replenish

Yeah, this is what I've been torn between. If we do every day, is that too often and he won't have time to "regroup" :) If we don't take the chance, am I missing a prime time. I feel like it's one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" things because the anticipation and hope is so great. It's enough to make you crazy trying to figure out the right thing to do!

It's helpful to read these answers - I appreciate the replies.

After my miscarriage I was told by my dr to bd every other day starting the day my AF stopped. It was because it was hard to tell when I was ovulating, well what we have been doing is once my AF stops we starts to bd, but once I see that ewcm, we BD every day after that for the next 3 days. So this month we started to BD on CD 7 and went CD 7 9 11 and 11 is when I saw the ewcm so we BD on 12 13 14 and just to be safe 16. And once the ewcm went away we were told we didnt need to BD anymore every other day. So since you did get a postive I would BD every day for the next 3 days in a row.

Okay...my husband's urologist says the best method for anyone is every other day. My hubby's little guys were tested and not quite up to par...but he's currently getting retested.

W/O TMI, all I can say is, unless your man's been tested, there is no way to tell if his little ones are in working order. My OBGYN says 50% of the time it's the guy...that's why I had mine tested upon her request. She also said, so many guys have problems and don't even know it because they may have an infection with no symptoms or pain and have never been tested.

The other factor here is the ovulation. I read that the egg can only survive for 12-24 hours. So, if you're ovulating, I say go for it. But NOT 3 times in one day. It's true that they do need to replenish. However, even if there's less than the "normal" amount that are viable, you still only need 1!!
