I am so confused. My dr called with concerns about my test results. I have bounced around to a couple dr's but so far no one has told me what is going on. At this point there have been no positive results of bleeding of any kind, but we are still looking. This is all Greek to me. All I know is I feel terrible, my hands and feet are numb, and I cannot get enough ice...

Here are what my tests show. Can anyone tell me what this may or may not mean????

Total Iron 11 L 35-175
Iron Binding Capacity 410 H 250-400
% Saturation 3 L 15-50
WBC Normal
RBC Count Normal
Hemoglobin 9.9 L 11.7 - 15.5
Hematocrit 30.6 L 35 - 45
MCV 74.2 L 80-100
MCH 24 L 27-33
MCHC (normal) 32.3 32-36
RDW 17.1 H 11-15

Hey...

Seems you have severe iron deficiency anemia. I too had this and had an iron infusion while in the hospital. My doc says I probably had it for years and it managed to hit a critical low. I too went through all the GI tests to look for a "bleed", but all normal. They think it is due to years of heavy menstrual bleeding. I definitely had the ice cravings, and prior to the iron infusion, couldn't get enough, that has completely subsided since I'm not anemic any longer. Chin up, this can be fixed!

Good luck and God bless!

Hi guys,
My anemia is also caused by heavy periods, my heamo has told me that unless the periods are stopped (im scheduled for surgery in feb), i will need infusions every three months, she says the more i bleed the worse its gonna get (ferritin levels are at the minute <3), i dont really want surgery, but dont want infusions long term either.
Its very frustrating!!!!
