View Full Version : Subs - decomp again

Hi Subs,

Just wondered if you could remind me about your "crash" at month 13/14 again? Did you do something to precipitate it? Was it following the new glasses prescription? And I know you have said before that adapting to your computer screen again was hard work. Have you since sat in front of any other screens and was that OK?

I just find it quite bizarre that at 29 months I can still be clobbered so hard. And it appears I may have set it off by sitting in front of my father's 19" LCD over Christmas for only about 15 minutes. I was really "off" for half the day after that and have slowly degraded ever since into a full decomp event where it seems everything my brain had under control was thrown out the window yet again. So is this another "software upgrade"? Man, I hope version 4 is more robust than 3!

Cheers...Scott

...."remind me about your "crash" at month 13/14 again? Did you do something to precipitate it?"...

Nope---not that I can recall...

...."Was it following the new glasses prescription?".....

No---was not....

..."Have you since sat in front of any other screens and was that OK?"...

Yep....LCD---17".....no probs...

..."find it quite bizarre that at 29 months I can still be clobbered so hard."...

Agree.....we are missing...something.....a clue....is out there somewhere...????....and---- since it is so repetive...and always seems to be triggered by the same event....should...be solvable....just need to break the code....

...there seems to be an obvious connection between the way the LCD---screen trace---is being generated electronicly...the state of ur vision...and/ or the size of the screen being viewed.... since....it does not occur...on ur CRT display.....right....??

Wonder...what we are missing???

Remind...me....what ur vision situation...was prior...to this junk...occuring..??

Hi Subs,

When I was first wiped out with labs I was using a 17" CRT. I had moderate trouble on that when things were peaking but soon got over it relatively fast. I then began using a particular HP 17" LCD here in the lab at the university. It never bothered me in the slightest so I assumed LCD monitors were ok of course. It never crossed my mind. Then I bought a newer, brighter, higher refresh rate 17" LCD 1.5 years ago. That one sent me off the rails badly (immediately) and I got rid of it immediately. I recovered after about 3 weeks. Then in June 05 I tried a 20" widescreen from Dell. Initially not as bad and I thought I was adapting so I sat on it for 6 hours. Twelve hours later all hell broke loose and I was a wreck for 6 weeks. Then there was the recent 15 min on my Dad's 19" LCD before Christmas and the immediate bad effect afterwards for half the day...it's been all downhill since then.

I am now back on the small powerbook screen and slowly trying to accomodate to my regular and usually ok HP LCD, however, it still throws me. I can only *just* handle the little powerbook screen. I have no vision problems at all and have never needed glasses....and thank God I don't. Adding glasses to the equation would be catastrophic for me I'm sure.

But interesting how I get trashed in the same way others have by using new reading glasses. I know this has happened to Edna and Tesss. And there was another who had the windscreen on their car replaced three times until it stopped causing nausea (Quincy?).

So, I wonder, how do I stop this from happening in the future? What possible sort of VRT could mop up this mess - if at all?

Thanks Subs....Scott
