I have stopped taking my iron tablets because they make me feel sick for long periods of time. I don't know what to do because i'm due back at the hospital for another blood test in a couple of weeks, and obviously my iron stores won't have changed! Has anyone has the same problem? Does anyone know of any different iron supplements that i can take?? The ones that i am currently supposed to be on are called Ferrous Sulphate.

Apparantly my iron stores are at 10.6 if i remeber correctly, although i have no idea what this means i know im not a serious anemic

There are quite a few different types of iron preparations you can take, speak to your doctor about switching to another type. Ive taken lots of different types - none of which i could tolerate, but i had the worst effects from ferrous sulphate.
Im now having iron infusions, but also take a supplement called spatone (its a water that you dilute with orange juice) its very kind on the stomach.

You might try taking it with food. But if that doesn't help then there are a couple of one's out there that are time released. "SlowFe" is the most popular.
Make sure that you don't take any calcium within two hours of taking your iron. It causes the iron to not be absorbed as well.
I would also advise you not stopping your iron. If you are anemic, which is the only reason to take iron, you will get worse if you don't. 10.6 is low. It also can take awhile for you stomach to adjust to taking it if you have a sensitive stomach. Tell your doctor that you are having problems taking it. He may have other's that you can have you take or maybe give you shot of iron to bypass it all.
Wishing you well!

I took Slow-Fe when I was anemic. It's slowly released into your system and I never had a problem taking it and I took 3 a day (about 4 hrs apart with OJ).
