Hiya

i have expereinced discomfort in my right abdomen for about 6 months, not up under the ribs like many describe here but lower and across to the far right.this is now very tender and painful to the touch.my docs sending me for a scan but this is the UK and our "free" health service is very slow, been waiting 2 weeks and no word.she prescribed buscopen which eased the discomfort a little but day to day i can put up with the discomfort so dont wanna take the meds unless i cant put up with the pain.
i think i may have a fatty liver as i feel swollen inside, weird feeling! if i bend to tie my shoes etc it feels like my liver is pressing against my lungs and leaves me short of breath!
i dont eat any sugary or fatty foods but have been a regular drinker for many years and am a little overwight but not obese..im 43 and last 10 years ive drank to some extent almost every day, something i,m now trying to stop and control but maybe its too late??
if i do have a enlarged liver what would the treatment be and can this be reversed?
i also have high blood pressure and will be prescribed meds when i visit docs next week when i have have my next reading, last one was 170/100,previous 2 just as bad.
thanks for reading

by the way downguy isnt an indication of my mood but the county in northern ireland that i live in lol.( County Down).dont want u all thinking i,m a manic depressive!!
have a good en!

Fatty liver can happen for a lot of reasons. I had the same problems you are having---it felt swollen and I couldn't bend over to tie my shoes without yelling ouch! For me, I just cut out the bad carbohydrates---sugars, artificial sugars and really watched my diet closely. It took the swelling down (after a few months).

Drinking does not help your liver---it can mess with your enzymes and cause all types of problems. Fatty liver can turn into cirrhosis if it's not taken care of in the early stages. It's exactly what it's called---a liver full of fat.

I'm not going to push for you or anybody else to do this---but am just telling you my story. I've done liver flushing the past 3 months (and in the middle of one right now) and it has helped me tremendously. All of that sludge and stones that are in your liver/gallbladder get pushed out and makes your organs function better.

My bloodwork has gone down greatly also. My cholesterol that is normally around 240 is down to 160. My liver enzymes were just a little high and flushing has cut them in half. The high range was 40, mine were 43---and now they're 15 and 16.

If you read the other recent post with Nicknamefij you will come across some information about flushing if it interests you. BUT---do follow up with your Dr about your recent results. Have them do an ultrasound if the bloodwork comes back ok to check on the size of your liver, etc. Make sure you tell him you drink daily, that you take occasional medicine, etc----everything you ingest is metabolized through your liver. Possibly it's just a little strained right now and needs a break from the alcohol and medication.

inyourdeams, many thanks for your reply and comments..i guess i know my discomfort is caused by excessive drinking as i dont eat suggary foods or take lots of carbs,in fact up unill the last 12 months i was a very fit person, even though i was still drinking daily i still exercised daily too,now i drink and dont exercise..i know that my real problem!! i will post back my scan results when i get them just in case my experiences can help others.
