It has been awhile since I have posted and it looks like I might be back.
I had a Brostrum Repair in August 2003 and was doing very well. Last summer I spent one day in Chicago at the Field Museum, on my feet the entire day. It wasn't until I was standing riding a trolley back to the train station, when the trolly hit a bump and it felt like my ankle jammed into itself. I barely limped off of the trolley, to the train and made my way home with my two kids. That evening I followed RICE, it never really swelled, and had no bruising and after about three or four days I was fine. But what I have been experiencing since it when I am on my feet all day, if I rest or am off of my feet, my ankle will pull my foot out and the pain to move it back is excrutiating, even it it slightly bumped. The only way I can help it is by applying moist heat, then massaging it and slowing working back. It is still sore for a couple days after.
Anyway, any thoughts on what has happened? I am finally making an appointment w/ my surgeon - afraid of what he might say. Just wondering if any of you have experienced this?
Thanks -eko

It sounds like you may be slightly dislocating your ankle? That of course is no good.
I haven't really had anything like it. I did sprain mine about a week and a half ago, but it seems to be healing all right (although I still have some really weird random pains in the back of my heel by my achilles tendon...). You're more brave than I am, waiting like that. I was in the urgent care getting x-rays and stuff within three hours of falling down the stairs (would have been there sooner, too, except I had another appointment).
I would slap on a brace or something to see if that at least helps with the pain. I really feel for you. It's really disappointing when you go through the surgery and the recovery and you're feeling great and then something like that happens. Just try to stay positive. Maybe it's just a muscle strength issue and can be resolved with PT?
Hope your surgeon has good news. Let us know.

Well, I go back February 1st, so I have a couple of weeks to jot down some good notes and observations about my ankle. I am sure that I am in for at least a x-ray if not an MRI too on it.
It is just so frustrating when something freaky happens. Hopefully it will be just some more PT, but that has not been my luck. At least I have made my appointment - oh boy.
