I injured my big toe on january 9th from dancing and i went to doctor shortly after and all he checked for was to see if its broken. Its been a week and a half now and it still hurts. If its not broken, i assume its a sprain, why is it still hurting? Do sprains take this long to heal? I thought it should only take about a week. There are no signs of discoloration or swelling, it just hurts when i put pressure on the ball of my foot under my big toe. The doctor said that a fracture in the bone doesnt show up in the x-ray until about a week after the injury. Should i go back in to get another x-ray or just rest longer? Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Depending on the severity of the sprain it can take anywhere from a few day up to several weeks. Did your doctor tell you what is wrong with your toe if he doesn't think it is broken? If you have any doubts about your toe you should call your doctor and let him know it is still hurting. If you any reason you think the toe might be broken than see about getting another x-ray as well.

he wasnt very helpful....he said its not broken and said something that it could be a bruise. It is weird because i didnt have discoloration or swelling (maybe a teeny bit but not noticable) and its been hurting for a week and a half now, although it has been getting better.
I am just curious, whoever had a sprained toe in this discussion board, how long were you out for? or when were you able to do physical activities using that toe again? Thanks.

I did break a toe and it took 4 weeks to heal. What the doctor told me to do was buddy tape it to the toe next to it. I don't know too much about a sprained toe but I am including a link that you can check out.
