Hi, I just have a couple of questions about kidney stones. Any input would be appreciated.

I went to the ER to find out I have 3 stones. My question is: does it make you nauseated and feel bad all over? Also, the sharp pains come and go, but my back just aches all the time. Is that normal?

Thanks,

heelsgal

I've had many kidney stones and yes I was nauseated most of the time, had back pain, pain in my groin, etc. It sounds normal to me. Good luck. I have a stone right now, but no symptoms yet.

thanks for the reply! although i have another question. (sorry i'm new to kidney stones :) ) i went to my GP doc yesterday. he wants me to wait and see if i pass them. his only concern is that i have had a fever (99.5-100.0) since last wednesday. he said this maybe a sign of an infection around the stone. has anyone else had an infected stone? if so, how did you feel and what did they do about it?

thanks in advance,

heelsgal

Have you considered seeing a Urologist? That's who I see for my stones. Do you know how big your stones are? Mine is a 3 mm and since it isn't huge, I should be able to pass it. I don't think I've had a fever with any of my stones. Did you have a urinalysis to look for infection?

Yes, I was just diagnosed with kidney stones. I was feeling extremely nauseated, had pain in my right flank area and had constant pain in my back. Luckily the pain hasn't been severe. I went to the ER and they did an abdominal and pelvic CT scan and discovered them. I also have had a fever around 100 degrees. :)

On Jan. 19th I went to the ER with severe pain in my lower left abdomen and after CAT scans was diagnosed with an 8mm stone in my urethra. The pain was unbearable after they put me on IV fluids bc the stone was blocking the passage of urine to my bladder. They gave me morphine, delauded, and some other narcotic cocktail and NOTHING helped. My urologist decided to put in a stent in order to relieve the pressure and hopefully allow me to pass the stone. Well I went for my follow-up today and he said the x-rays did not show a stone anywhere which means that either the stent broke up the stone or their is a 10% chance its made up of a material the x-ray doesn't pick up. He did say though that based on the pH level of my urine that the latter was a very slim chance. I will go back Thursday to have the stent removed and I will be very glad of it bc it makes me have frequent urges to void without a full bladder. Very annoying. That is just one way urologists handle kidney stones if they are to large to pass (up to 4mm is the largest). Good luck with yours. :) Oh and yes I had lots of infection behind the stone so I was put on antibiotics also.
