I am so surprised constantly at how many people want reassurance that their behaviours have not exposed them to HIV/AIDS. Almost all of the threads here are similar to, "Am I HIV+." There don't seem to be many discussions of treatments and/or living with AIDS which surprises me. But perhaps people who are HIV+ go to more specialist boards with a broader spectrum of topics.
I thought with the release of "Rent" there would be more open communication on the topic...
Just wondering...

I think it has more to do with the fear and stigma that comes with being HIV+ some people dont talk about it as much, others have no problem disscussing it, I have seen other websites that deal with those discusions much more indept, ranging from treatment, nutrition, support, sprituality, most people like myself, come to these boards mostly for reassurance for behavours we consider put us in a situation to be infected, it is a very lonely time the window period, very few people that one can talk to, last time I barely kept my sanity, this time I need these boards just to allow me to be productive, I cant stop working just because Im afraid I was infected, and helping out others through their window periods is the only way I can help myself through mine.

Dear girlwondering: I've been to those other sites and those sites are specific to AIDS and HIV issues. HEALTHBOARDS invites a great many people to discuss issues specific to the health questions in a variety of subject areas.
I stay on this site becuase I think the basic tenor of this site is helpful and kind. I have seen some of the other posts on other sites and sometimes I think questions are answered in a significantly more strident tone.
Also, it is important to understand that at the other sites, as well as HEALTHBOARDS, discussions are always intitiated because of questions that are asked. SO, if you have a question about treatment modalities, or what it's like living with HIV, then you certainly should feel free to ask. I am HIV + and will be glad to answer any questions you may have about my own handling of this disease.
Oh, about "RENT" I haven't seen it, but you really need to see "Angels in America", "In the Gloaming," adn "Phila******a" which pretty much pre-date the movie version of the stage play ('Rent', that is.)
So, what questions do you have...? chris
