My brother cut his shin on a stair during a training exercise in Basic training. It's now been four months since he injured it. Initially, it appeared his leg got an infection because it swelled up and was red and hot to the touch. However, he delayed seeing a doctor because he didn't want to miss out on any training. By the time he saw a medic, he was told it looked like scar tissue and to just massage it and see if the swelling went down. I doubt he's had a lot of time to massage it with Airborne training and Special Forces qualification right after Basic. He's now seen six different medics, none of whom have ever seen a case like this. They lanced it yesterday (with just a large needle) and blood and clear fluid came out. He was told if he got those two fluids and no yellow pus, it was likely scar tissue build-up. However, I'm concerned he may have a bone infection or something that serious. I don't know what kind of tests they've run on him and can try to get more info, but I don't believe they've detected any infections in his blood work. When he wears his combat boots, the fluid gets pushed up and causes the leg to look even more swollen.

My brother will try to see a doctor in the next couple of weeks, but I'd like to see if you have any knowledge about what this could be. Would MRSA lie dormant this long? There is no "head" on the wound. It's pretty much a scar now. Could it be cellulitis? Or, is it just scar tissue like one medic thought?

Thanks in advance!

They need to check and see if he has a staph infection.
