VegasQ 01-21-2006, 04:03 PM My daughter's 1/2 sister (same father) was just diagnosed with aml m7. Anyone know the likihood that a sibling will develop the same disease? Thanks! Sponsor jectac 01-22-2006, 12:13 AM First of all, let me say that I am sorry to hear of your daughter's 1/2 sister. As far as a sibling developing AML, the chances are the same as if no sibling had the disease. Leukemia is not hereditary. My 10yr old was diagnosed on 12-15-04 with AML M-2, and her sister has no more of a chance of developing AML now than she did say in August of 2004. If I may ask, how old is this girl? VegasQ 01-22-2006, 10:39 AM Jectac she is 2 and my daughter who is cancer free is 4....I think from what I have seen the 2 year old's chances are slim? jectac 01-23-2006, 01:23 AM To answer your question, I have not done that much research on M-7 due to my daughter was M-2 and that was my main concern. But from what I have found in my research, yes, M-7 has a difficult chance of cure. However, IT DOES NOT MEAN NO CHANCE OF CURE. The FIRST thing the Oncologist tells you is to not look at statistics. If I had, I would be going crazy. My daughter presented well. Blasts under 100,000. Age between 3yr and 10yr., Sub-type M-2. All favorable. HOWEVER, her cytogentetics were UNFAVORABLE. Anything I read was: Complete remission: difficult to obtain. Long tern remission (usually under 6 mo.) difficult to obtain. PROGNOSIS: UNFAVORABLE. Here we are..... 1 year out of the box..... complete remission... obtained in 1st induction and retained for a year. SO MUCH FOR STATISTICS. If I can guess.... they are going to go for a Bone Marrow Transplant for her best prognosis. God Bless |
