I know Doctors tell you to wait 6 months at least, but I know most people start way earlier. I can't remember when I started with my 1st child (that was 10 years ago). I think it was 3 months, I wm thinking of starting earlier this time. Seems like the milk is just not satisfying him enough, sometimes he takes two bottles back to back. (3 ounces each) He is almost 5 weeks old.

I started DS on rice cereal and 3.5 months and stayed with rice until he was 5 months and I only did it before bed.

I have never heard of a Doctor saying to wait till 6 months to start cereal...fruits and veggies yes....but not cereal. My doctor and many others I know said 4 months was when you can start the rice cereal. Once the baby can take that well you can move on to the oatmeal, Barley, and mixed. Between 5 and 6 months you can start fruits and veggies.

I think all doctors are different, our doc told us, and was with both my kids and 2 totally different doctors, to start rice cereal and yellow veggies at 4 months, then green veggies along with different cereals and then fruits and juices if you want to. With my dd I did rice cereal only, until she got used to it, bout a week or so, then slowly added the veggies and fruits. Now my ds is 6 months old and we started him with the rice cereal and yellow veggies, I guess cause babies tend not to be allergic to the rice cereal, that is why we did the others at the same time. good luck, I would ask your doctor. I would say 3.5 months is ok, but not much earlier then that, unless the doc tells you to, I know some people use the rice cereal in the bottles also. have fun

Our pediatrician said I could start cereal AND vegetables anytime between 4 and 6 months...just whenever I & baby were ready. I started right at 4 months.

He also said we didn't have to specifically start the cereals or vegetables in any order...so I did rice for 2 weeks, and added oatmeal. I plan to start vegetables at 5 months, mainly because that's what I plan on doing & feel Ava is ready for it.

Really, the only specifications he gave was to do vegetables before fruits, and save the meats for last.

Started cereal at 3 months, kids now eat (4 months old) rice cereal, carrots and squash.
Never did the other cereals, doc said it was a waste of money.

Thank you all for your advice and opinions. I now know that 3 months is the earliest to start. I am looking forward to that day!! :)

I have never heard of a Doctor saying to wait till 6 months to start cereal...

I've never heard any different. Most books I've read and doctors I've spoken to said the baby only needs breastmilk until 6mos old, then you can start cereal gradually.
