Hi Ladies,
Anyone have experiences with false positive PG tests? How long before you got your postive after getting a negitive? Is this common?

While I was still nursing my last baby (about 2 years ago) I thought I might be pregnant, took SEVERAL tests, and got some false positives. They were VERY faint, but for a time I believed the whole thing about "even if it's faint, congratulations, you're pregnant!" I went to the doctor, who confirmed my suspicions that despite the tests, I was not pregnant--I tested over a period of about 2 weeks, and the tests never got any darker, so I thought I must not really be pregnant, and I wasn't. My son was about 8 months old, but because I was nursing I retained some of the pregnancy hormones.

A pregnancy test is looking for HCG in your urine. There are no false positives. Either the HCG is there or it is not and it is there from a current or a prior pregnancy or from an injection of HCG.

Technically, I suppose you are right, WhyIsThisMyLife. However, since the test is called a "Pregnancy Test" and not a "Pregnancy Hormone Test" it is possible to take one and think you're pregnant when you're not. Especially with everyone around saying "If there's any line there at all, you're pregnant!!"

I am sure glad they don't call HPTs "human chorionic gonadotropin test", we would for sure sprain our tongues ;) I read that false positives are very rare. Some tumors can produse hCG and give false positive, but it's extremely rare.
