Hi,
I need to get a pulse monitor but don't want to spend too much.
Here's the requirments I need:
Less than $100
waterproof- I swim a lot
Keeping track of min and max HR during each workout.
Keeping track of average HR.
Preferrably one w/o the chest strap.
And of course, accurate.
Is one brand better over the other, in general?

I have never used anything other than a Polar, but it's a great monitor. Never has any trouble with it.

I also have a polar monitor. I did some research and talked to my doctor and was told you really need the chest band to get a true reading. They are not uncomfortable at all. I hope this helps.

I was thinking of getting a Polar too, but there are so many different models out there. what kind do you have Naxis and Cat3883? Yeah, I guess I could deal with the chest strap.
