Naxis.. in one of your earlier post you said you've now become a Vegan. Can you still build muscle on thie diet? Im talking Bodybuilding and Powerlifting. What would be your protein sources ?? I don't recall any of the Pro's on ''Muscle and Fitness/Flex'' magazines that are on this. Im really curious what your thoughts or any one else on this diet who ''Weight Lifts''...Thanks a million..

Check out Mike Mahler for an excellent vegan role model in the body builders' circle. He's got it down. You can *absolutely* build muscle on a vegan diet, you just have to be a little more careful about food choices. I eat a lot of beans and green veggies, tofu, and use rice protein for shakes. I also use brewers yeats to make up for missing B vitamins as well as for additional protein. Boca Burgers (technically soy) make good meal/snacks too, although I avoid processed food when I can.

I'll check that out (mike mahler) but i've read where soy with its Phyto Estrogens slows Testosterone and also causes Hypothyroidism. Thanks !!

I really question the validity of those findings, but like anything sports or diet related, there isn't a lot of scientific testing to back either side of the fence. I think the fact that those claims are floating around prevent a lot of people from even trying - and to some extent, I don't blame them. But finding any singular cases, first hand experience, seems to be all but non-existant.
You could also use less soy. :)

Seeing him hoist the Kettlebells on his Vegan diet is impressive. One last question about Soy. I was going to swap Skim milk for Soy milk on Oatmeal or Fiber One would o.k. for a protein source. And every now and then i have to have peanut butter /jellie sandwiches, Natural Peanut Butter, Sugar free Jam on Dark Grain Bread , 2 or 3 of these fine for a quick lunch?? thankx !

Sounds good. Just watch the sugar free jams, they may put some nasty stuff in there. Real fruit preserves wouldn't be so bad, especially if you're looking to gain muscle.
