I was just wondering if a CT scan can detected colon cancer? Thank you all for your time

I think it can detect a suspicious mass or spot, but, if they find something, they would probably have to do a biopsy to tell if it were actually malignant or not. I had a Cat scan and still had a colonoscopy because I wanted to make sure with the probls I was having that the test didn't miss anything. The colonoscopy is more accurate at detecting masses as well as other things. Plus, if you have anything wrong, they can go ahead and do the biopsy right there at the time of the test, and remove any findings.

From what I understand, a CT scan can detect something that shouldn't be there. A biopsy would tell you if it is malignant. Three months after I finished chemo they did a CT scan, and everything was normal. Before I had surgery they did a CT scan in the emergency room when I thought I had a urinary tract infection. There was no infecton, but it showed a cyst on my bladder, and nothing else. In fact the report states that other than the cyst, everything appears normal. I guess sometimes there are surprises-in my case the cancer was on the outside of my colon, behind the cyst.

Thank you all for responding..I have myself convinced that i have colon cancer..I know that sounds stupid..anyways i had a CT scan done yesterday because at christmas i was sick and went in and my liver functions were high and i was having pain under my ribs..well since then my liver functions test have gone back to normal so they did a ct scan to see about the pain..well anyways i have had blood in my stool from time to time and everytime i go they say its hemroids.well since after my ct scan i have had diareha(sp) not sure if its from the dye or what.Oh and last night I had cramps and my colon was making weird noises..I am just scared I have colon cancer now...Thank you all for listening..I think i drive my husband crazy about this..Thanks again.
