My son is scheduled for a renal angiogram on the 8th of February. I was hoping that someone could give me some idea of what to expect, such as how the procedure is performed, might it be painful, and recovery time.

I had a renal aniogram about 5 or 6 months ago. There is an IV placed which of course is a scary thing for a child but the procedure itself is not painful, slighty time consuming though. I also had to have a catheter put in to drain the bladder because they inject a contrast material in the IV to see the kidney better.

Does anyone know if the angiogram show if any shrinkage of the kidney has occurred?
