Hello,
after carefully calculating, I have determined that my time of the month will happen day of surgery or day after. Hows that work?????
Thanks Sheri

Hi Sheri,
if this happens the time of surgery they wont be able to insert a catether in you.

If it is the day after surgery, many women's bodies will delay the event due to the shock of surgery and anesthesia. Might be best to phone the doctor's nurse and ask her about this. I'm sure they run into this all the time, so ask now.

Hi Sheri,
I had the same issue and wear tampons and asked my nurse when I was in the pre-op room (not the waiting room but in the hospital bed before they wheel you back ) before they got me hooked up to IV's and told her.
She went and asked the attending. Since my surgery was only 2-3 hours, I put in a new tampon right before surgery and then 8 hours later I was able to get up an hobble to the bathroom with the nurses assistance and change it. ( I also asked them to put this on my chart to "remind" me since I was a little loopy with meds:)
Two things. If you wear a pad, that is no problem for them and they will fit you with one to wear so just tell the nurses when you are in pre-op. I think the pad is the easiest way to go for a longer surgery or lumbar surgery since you don't have to worry about it, they will take care of you...
Also, depending on the surgery, how long it is, and such, the only reason you should have a catheter put in is if you aren't able to pee yourself in a "standard" amount of time. Not sure what the actual time frame is...
Good question for us girls:):)
hugs and blessings,
Ingy

I had issues with my monthly, I had four surgeries and each time it was no where near MY time, but a day or two after the surgery I got my monthly, then the following month I skipped it and then resumed normalcy the month after that. I was catherized with no trouble at all each time. The nurses were all very accomodating as far as seeing that I had what I needed. I agree with the above, asking your Dr. is the best thing, every Dr. is different just like every patient is different too. Good Luck!
