OK,I would really like to find out if anyone else has had these experiences w/ effexor xl. I take 225 mg /day. On Wednesday, I forgot to take it. This is the 1st time in 6 mths that I've missed a dose. Anyway, the next day, I felt awful. Had all over body shocks, the shakes, etc. The body shocks were the worst... Every coupla seconds ALL DAY, I felt as if I were being struck by lightening. Right now, I have no psych dr, I just have my GP, who supplied me w/ a 6 month prescription. How safe can this med be with these SEVERE symptoms of only missing one dose? I'm very afraid to continue on this med even tho it has helped w/ the depresssion. I'm really thinking about SLOWLY weaning myself off of it. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on this subject??
Thanks
Kathy

Kathy,
I've never personally experienced something like that before but maybe you should see your GP as soon as possible. Personally, I'd just keep taking the prescribed dosage until you can see your doctor and then take it from there.

Hello Kait,
I'm sorry I don't have any experience with Effexor but I think the advice given by Chrys and lilmiss are as good as I could give you.
There are several people here that have been, or are on
Effexor....perhaps they will come along shortly and give you some of their words of wisdom.
With Kindness,
Bev

Kait27, I have heard you cannot miss a dose of Effexor. It is very dangerous. Please check with your pharmacist. They have a lot more information than your doctor can provide. Good luck, badgirl

These drugs need very slow weaning! As far as the dangers, there are lots of websites on that but drugawareness.org is a very good one.

I just want to thank all of you for your responses.I think I'm going to start SLOWLY weaning off the effexor. Right now I don't have a psychiatrist, only a primary care dr. and he was suggesting putting me on Depakote with the effexor. I definitely don't want to try that. Well, I'll see what happens.

Ugh, I got really sick when I tried to stop taking Effexor. I weaned myself off slowly but I still felt like hell when I stopped altogether. My head and body ached terrible for the 1st 3 or 4 days. Then I just felt yucky for another week. It took about a month for my head to feel perfectly okay. I will never take that stuff again!
