I am 64 yeaars old, in great health EXCEPT for a sinus/hearing/nasal problem. I have had the nasal surgery (years ago), I've had ear tubes (first the small plastic ones, then the larger titanium gromet ones). They eventualy fell out as they are designed to do. Since they fell out a few years ago, I've had permanent holes in both eardrums. After the ear tubes failed, I got a hearing aid in one ear. The expnsive type, behind the ear, digital, programmed to my hearing loss. When I get sinus congestion, I get drainage from my ears into the outer ear canal. I try to keep it cleaned with q-tips and tissues. When this problem starts, I have had only one solution that works, and it works every time. I have been given an antibiotic (many different ones - currently on ZMax) and a course of prednisone (3/day - 2 days, 2/day - 2 days, 1/day - 2 days) of 20mg tablets. By the time the 3rd day rolls around, my ears have opened up, as well as my sinuses. All the negative press I've read in the forums is totally opposite from my experience. Prednisone is a "wonder drug". My question to the readers is: with the prescribed dosages taken when needed (every 6 - 8 weeks), should I expect any long time effects from taking it? Please respond if you've had any experience with a situation like mine.
I have this post on the "Hearing Disorders" section, but wanted any input I can get.
