Hello everyone,

I have been on Ortho TriCyclen for about three years. The last few months, I have begun spotting between periods, usually about 10-12 days before my period starts. I don't notice any other symptoms...last night when I started spotting I noticed a little twinge in my lower abdomen, but I don't know if it was because I am starting to get worried about the spotting. When I worry, I tend to make myself sick. I am no longer having sex, so it can't be anything related to that. Anyway, has anyone else had this or know of why this is happening? I will be making an appointment with my doctor, but I thought I would just come here and see if anyone could offer any suggestions in the meantime, as it will be a few weeks before I will be able to get in.

Thanks,
Lindsey

This often happens. If it just happens once in awhile, it's nothing to worry about. However, if it keeps happening, you should consult your physician. S/he will probably switch you to another pill that should prevent spotting.

Thanks. That makes me feel a bit better. I tend to worry way too much.

Will the doctor put me through tests and stuff, or will she just get me to switch pills and see what happens, and then go from there?

Anyway, thanks again!

Nah, just tell your doc, she should just put you on a new pill.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen did the same thing to me too after I was on it for years. It got so bad that I'd basically get one good week out of the month where I wasn't bleeding or spotting. After a few months of that, I was about ready to buy stock in Tampax! Seriously though, I told my Dr. and he switched me to Ovcon-35, and now I'm lucky if I get my period once every three months. Hey, that's fine by me!
