I'm trying to get my 10 month old son to start drinking from a sippy cup. He wants nothing to do with them! I've tried all the different ones - hard spout, soft spout, handles, no handles, no spout, etc. I've put formula, I've tried juice, and also water and he just wants to play with the cup. He's not attached to his bottle because once he's done drinking, that's it. He shakes his head no and wants no part of it.

I just wonder if anyone else has had the same trouble and would know how to guide me...

Thanks

Try the nuby silicone ones. You can get them at wal-mart.

I say just keep offering the different kinds that you have. He will eventually warm up to it. I always had luck with the soft spout. It took DS about 10-11 months to take the sippy. DD was faster. Have you tried straws? My kids couldn't do it that young, but my friend's daughter could...she loved them.

Here's another thought...messy, but a thought. Even though DS wouldn't do a sippy at that age, he could drink from a regular cup with his own hands. I started at about 9 months. I gave him a shot glass with a TINY bit of water in it and showed him how. The shot glass is perfect for their little hands. It took about 2 weeks of spilling in the high chair before he started to get it. Then I moved him up to more liquid. And then a real sized glass. I couldn't believe it worked, but I saw it in a book so decided to try it.

Of course this doesn't work for car rides, etc. But it's a thought.

DS can't suck from a sippy cup so I took the piece out that makes them spill proof. This piece makes sucking harder. Now he does okay with it. But since he was 3 months we have been working on a regular cup and he does that now at almost 8 months with no problems. We hold it and he drinks, I have yet to let him do it himself.

My doctor said I could start juice in the sippy at 6 months...he thought it was a toy, and played with it. I decided not to push it....he just didn't seem ready...he's 7 months now, and I think he's ready.....he's crawling, and sitting, and eating lots of different foods. I will try it again in the next day or so.

I would continue to introduce it slowly..........On my first try with it I drank out of it first to show him....and that helped!....maybe try showing him how fun a sippy is! :bouncing:

My DD will be one on the 16th and still will not drink from a sippy cup...tried different ones at different times...she always turns it upside down...plays with it and throws it on the floor...not interested at all..tried with juice..she loves all juices..heck she won't even hold her own bottle..I think she is lazy...she wants me tohold her bottle...I tried just giving her the bottle...she does the same think...upside down...then on the floor...tried many, many times...have given up on it lately!!

i agree with taking out the little "stopper" (i'm not sure what the correct term is for that!)and offering the sippy cup..that way he's still experiencing the spout and having the liquid come out faster. After he's accomplished that try again with the "stopper"..and try different kinds of cups after that. With my ds i tried many different cups and when he figured out how to "work" it I offer him different ones so he can feel the difference.
Good Luck!
Also..everyone's suggestions are great too!

I think the Nuby one is great too, I just bought some today. Walmart's brand is almost like that, but it kept falling apart!
One thing, at first always put water in the cup, it's much easier to clean up! DS can drink out of a regular cup pretty well. I gave him one yesterday to hold by himself with some water in it, and he drank a little and then turned right upside down! But, since it was just water, it was no big deal, then he proceded to play with the cup for the next four hours and scream bloody murder if you tried to take it away!
But taking out the little valve thing does help alot too.
Some kids don't ever take to a sippy cup. A friends son never drank from one. She said he would thrist to death before he would drink from one. He just didn't like it I don't guess.
Good luck!
