I have been addicted to opiates for about the past 3 1/2 years. My drug of choice : Lorcet - mainly b/c it was the easiest for me to get a hold of. It got to a point where I just had no control of my life. Lorcet's had control over my life. I finally decided I had to do something to get off these pills that were slowly killing me. A week ago from today I decided to go to a methadone clinic. I've gone every day for the past 7 days and I can honestly say I feel like my normal sober self again. (besides some of the side effects that they say should go away soon ) However, I don't have many people (family or friends) supporting me going to the methadone clinic. This does make it a lot more harder for me because I have so many people telling me the negative things about methadone and on the other hand I've heard wonderful things about it. I'm just kinda stuck and don't know what direction to go to. I've learned that most people on methadone maintenance live the rest of their lives on methadone. And that's fine. But for me, it's just not what I want. My goal is to eventually become clean & sober of everything including methadone. I've read a lot of articles on the internet that most people who detox from methadone usually get back on opiates. And that the withdrawl from methadone is too extreme and too hard to do. But isn't there a way to detox where you slowly taper to where it's not that hard to get off? Is there anyone out there who has had success with methadone maintenance and is there anyone who was able to detox from methadone sucessfully. If so, please share your stories with me. I need some advice pleeease.
*Also, I wanted to know about some of the side effects. I seem to experience just about every one that the nurse said I might. I'm extremely tired throughout the whole day. Tomorrow I'm going to lower my dose some to see if that will help. I also experience .... sweating, dry mouth, small pupils, etc. Pretty much every side effect that is associated with methadone. Has anyone experienced all these side effects? is this normal?
Thank you all for your time and support! It is truly appreciated.
