View Full Version : Does anyone take the "older" medications?

I just started taking Nortriptyline, as any of the SSRIs made my essential tremor worse. I wondered if anyone else here takes it, and what to expect in the way of side effects, etc.

I think that part of my depression comes from feeling like I'm faking my way through life. That I'm not as good as others think I am. That someday I'll be "found out". Can anyone relate?

Guiltygenious- I have not taken the older meds but have looked into it. Please keep the board posted as to how you do. I can relate extremely well to the feeling of not being as good as others and just feeling that you are "faking it"......sometimes i just tell myself that others have their flaws too and are able to hide them as well.

I'll tell you that I never slept so good in my life! But I had a lot of trouble waking up this morning. I imagine I'll adjust to that.

I had taken Pamelor. The only side effect I experienced was blurry vision. It's the only antidepressant I wouldn't gain weight with. The only reason I'm no longer on it is that I had overdosed with it--my doctor won't go there again. I wish she'd trust me but then maybe there's truth for her caution. Hope it works for you.

My first med was a tricyclic .... prothiaden. I found it good for my anxiety but not so good for depression/ocd. I also tried clomipramine, but was allergic. I know dr's prefer not to prescribe these because they generally have more side effects and are actually alot more toxic if overdosed.

Just a follow up, I'm on about day five and am already starting to feel much perkier (the good sleep helps too).
