I have severe social anxiety. The doctor that I see will not write me a prescription for any narcotics. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any replacements for Atavin? That works so well for my social anxiety, but they don't prescribe addictive things to people around here. Please answer if you have any imput.

dear poster:not that I agree with it but....the method of operation with most docs goes like this. They are more than willing to prescribe an SSRI like Paxil-Lexapro-etc. and then they will "allow" a script for a benzo to take with it-AS NEEDED. Ativan is in the Valium family-so is Klonopin and Xanax. Ativan has been a lifesaver for me~and it definitely helps with anxiety/panic and social shyness. There is a med called Buspar that is touted as non-addictive(for anxiety). I was given a script for it~but never took it because most people that post here say it causes dizziness  But everyone is different so maybe it would work for you? Or you could let the doc prescribe an AD and tell him you need Ativan to go with it?
best of luck~RR :)

welcome
ativan isnt a narcotic its a valium type med and very helpful if prescribed and taken sensibly
sadly many docs have been brainwashed against prescribing it although anxiety sufferers rarely have addictive type personalitys

you may need to try several docs to find 1 who will prescribe any valium type meds
