I noticed another thread about this on the board, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing, so I'm starting a new thread just in case.
Today, when I was clipping my toenails, I noticed that this one nail is much thicker than the others, only on one side. Half the nail is a normal thickness, and the other half is abnormally thick. I've noticed it before but ignored it. Now I notice some discoloration underneath the nail and that kind of freaks me out. It's only on the one nail, but I read that a nail fungus can spread to other nails. I don't want that to happen. I want it go to go away before it can spread. I don't really want to see a doctor about it because like I said, it's only on the one nail and only noticeable to me. I'm rarely barefoot, except at like the beach... or in the shower. I'm looking for a home remedy or over the counter treatment that's not too expensive. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? What exactly did you do? Thanks for your help.

If the nail is thickening, yellowing, separating from the nail bed adn has apparent debris in the area od separation, then it sounds like fungus. Try Reclain AF. Use it until the nail looks 'normal' again.

I have read to use apple cider vinegar. I have been using the vinegar for about 4-6 weeks and I truely believe it is curing my toenail fungus.
I have had it in one big toenail for about 2 years. I have tried Vicks and Tea Tree oil with little or no results. My nail came completely off one time, has turned yellow, brown and black at different times, has lifted away from the nail bed....it is so yucky and embarrassing.
This time, the nail was half loose and black on the loose part. I cut away all the loose part and started using the vinegar twice a day without fail. I squirt some on with a little spray bottle and rub it in. Right now, my toenail is about 1/2 there with no discoloration, The top of the half is still a little off in texture but the newer 1/4 looks normal. Nails take a long time in grow in so this takes commitment. You must do it every day without fail. I am hoping my nail will be totally grow back and normal by May or June. I think I will make my goal!

Thanks for the info. I think I'll try that first. I'll let everyone know how it goes - hopefully well!

Totally go for the vinager. Normal white grocery store vinager. Cheap easy and so effective. Good news is if you only have it on the top corner, you should be able to get rid of it fast. Be patient, toenails grow slow. Just drop 2 drops onto your cuticle of the vinager every 12 hours (twice a day) and never miss a dose. I am living proof IT WORKS. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Good Luck....although if you follow my instructions you won't need any (luck that is :) )
