Approximately how many diapers do newborns go through a day (when they are wearing newborn size and size 1 diapers)? I have found some good deals on diapers that I want to take advantage of but you have to buy a certain amount to get the good deal - and I don't want to end up with way more than I need! (My son is due next month.)
Thanks in advance for your help?

When DS was born I changed him every time he pooped which was almost every 2hrs (when I breastfed). So that's about 8 diapers between 8am-12am. Add another 4 for good measure, b/c half the time when you change them, 15min they poop some more. Also you may have to change them once in the middle of the night, depanding how sensitive they are. Some will cry even if their diaper is a little bit wet, others could care less. So you're looking at about 120 diapers just in the first 10 days, easy.
You can stock up on size one or two if they have good deals, b/c they will use them for couple of months each, at least. But only buy one box newborn at a time. Babies grow soo fast. I usually have one extra box waiting (144 diapers). DS grew out of newborn size at 3wks, and also after 1-2 mo their pooping slows down.
Hope this helps.

my ds was out of newborn before we left the hospital lol, was in 1-2 swaddlers for 2-3 months. same thing, he was breastfed, so he got changed quite often, at 8-12 times a day depending. good luck

Plan on at least 8 diapers a day. If you are like me, I changed him right before each feeding and that's 8 times a day in the beginning. My little guy is just about to outgrow the newborn diapers, and he's almost 5 weeks along.

My children used at least 15-20 diapers a day when they were newborns. My son was the worst--he would sometimes mess up 2 or 3 diapers during a diaper change. He would poop a little and when I went to change him he would poop all over the new diaper and I'd have to get another one. Buy at least 3 times what you think you need and what the baby books tell you.

my ds usually goes through about 10-12 a day. He is in a size 1 now. He is 4 1/2 weeks old.

If you are going to buy alot, I'd say go for the size ones over the newborn. I think newborns only go up to 10 lbs, so how many of those you'll use may depend on how big the baby is. DS was 6 lbs so he wore them for several weeks. My friends daughter was just about 10 lbs at birth so she barely used hers. DS was definitely in 1's longer. He ate about every two hours then and he pooped just about every time he ate. lol You get the picture.

I'm pretty consistent with the other answers. We changed (and still do) right before every feeding...unless there's a reason to do it sooner.
Ava was 6 lbs, 7 oz and wore newborns for about 2 months.
When she graduated to size 1's, she only wore them for 2 weeks and we found that Size 2's fit much nicer than 1's. She's 4 months old and still in Size 2's. She's about 13 lbs.

I bought 2000 diapers before our DD was born...she is going to be one on the 16th and I still have some number 5's....I used all the 1's...2's...she is now into 3's and can wear 4's....I ran out of 3's and 4's...didn't use 1's for very lonf...and newborns?? I only bought 1 or 2 boxes...they grow out of them very fast....unless your baby is really tiny...Charlize was 9 lbs at birth..
