I was in the hospital a little over a week in December. They gave me a catheter, which gave me an enterococcus (I'm not sure which kind-all I know from the urinalysis is that it's Vancomycin-susceptible) UTI. I tried Fosfomycin, a one-dose antibiotic, but it doesn't seem to have gotten rid of it. I still have cloudy urine with a slight odor to it.
In the last few days I've also developed pain in my sides and lower back. But I have no fever, nausea or other symptoms. My doctor gave me Cipro, in case it's a kidney infection. I haven't started taking it yet. On the urinalysis, Cipro was mentioned as one of the drugs this bacteria is susceptible to. The others are Macrobid and Levaquin. Which one is the best?
Does anyone know about enterococcus?

I have had lots of UTI's myself and my sister recently had a bout with one that had gone from a simple bladder infection to her kidney. She was given a round of Cipro and it did the trick. I have had good results with both Cipro and Levaquin. The doctors give me the impression that they both work at a similar level. I am not familiar with Fosfomycin. Hope you get relief.
