My DD will be 4 months this Saturday. For the past few days she has been eating 4oz of formula every 2 hours. Can I add rice cereal to her bottle to make her more satisfied. If so, how much should I add?

Our pediatrician advised against putting cereal in a bottle. He said if we were going to give her cereal, do it with a spoon so they can get the practice. He said he only advises putting cereal in a bottle if the baby needs to put on weight. I'm sure plenty of others do it. I know my mom did it with my brother. MissT 02-01-2006, 10:55 PM They make this thing that I got from walmart that a sippy cup (for larger babies) and a bottle with a spoon/nipple attachment for smaller babies. You put the food Cereal or baby food in it and it has a thing on the bottom that you push up to make the food go to the top. The spoon thing is neat because it just fills the spoon back up. I just got it so I'm still getting used to it but I like it. As I said it also has a nipple attachment if you did want to feed them with the nipple. My dr said the same that its good to feed with a spoon to get them to practice at 4 months they are old enough. My 4 mth old son eats great from a spoon. S&J 02-01-2006, 11:29 PM I've been told not to add rice cereal to a bottle as it could be a choking hazard. I've also heard of a lot of people adding the cereal and having no problems at all..and some have been advised to add the cereal in the bottle by their dr. for health reasons for the baby... Have you tried adding a few more ounces of formula to the bottle? or even offer a few teaspoons of cereal after she has eaten? Good Luck! S :) |
