My normal hair is a dark brown/blonde wavy and on the dry side. I dont use heat on my hair.

As I am starting to get a few too many greys I have recently used the same permanent hair colour 3 times every 6 weeks (medium ash blonde)

I now see it is breaking off and falling out a lot more.

I think my mistake is colouring the whole head each time? Should I try just to touch up the roots? How do you do this.

I used to just peroxide my hair when younger and it never broke off then. Any advise welcome. Not experienced at permanents really.

Thanks.

Three times every six weeks? So within a six-week time frame you're colouring your hair three times? That's too often. Any more than once every six weeks is bound to have a drastic effect on your hair.
When you colour again, do the roots for the full time, and the rest of the hair just for the last 10 minutes.
Also, get a REALLY good condition for colour-treated hair.

Hey Cinderella,
My hair is also a dark brown blonde, and I just dyed it Medium ash blonde tonight, and it has a bit of a reddish tint to it. Does yours come out reddish tinted too? And you said you used to peroxide your hair? Is that regular peroxide and did it make your hair blonde?

Sorry for the confusion, no every 6 weeks I coloured my hair one time, but have done this 3 times in 18 weeks. I have never used a perm colour before apart from using peroxide as a teen. I guess the problem is your older hair keeps getting bombarded.

I used peroxide from the chemist, yes it did go blonde but brassy, I wouldnt recommend it really, sometimes I use sun in spray to tough up the roots.

I am think of using a semi perm colour which will wash out in 30 washes and they reckon is very gentle and even conditioning.

Thanks.

No the ash blonde didnt go red, but it did fade quite quickly and leaves my hair a yellow blonde.
