DS has one eye that waters quite a bit. Its not red or anything, but it always has tears coming out of it. What could be the problem?

Could it be a blocked tear duct?

I agree--blocked tear duct.

It could be, DS has an eye that waters all the time too. We talked to the dr, they won't do anything, unless it is hurting them, until they are a year old, i think. It is not a big deal really. My sis had one and she had a little procedure done when she was two I think.
But, you can go to the eye dr. I posted about this earlier, there is a program called infantsee, where certain eye doctors will give a baby a free eye exam. Just check with eye doctors around you!

So you don't think it calls for a trip to the doctor?

As long as it is not bothering him, I would wait till the next WBV and show it to the Dr then. If it is a blocked tear duct, like the other poster said, they don't usually do anything about it until they are older. Most times with a blocked tear duct you will see that it is a little mucusy from time to time.

That is what is happening. It was just watering occassionally, but the past 2 days its been watering more and a bit mucusy (sp?). I always have to wipe the corner of his eye because it has crud in it.

Def. sounds like that. Ds still has it from time to time. If it's an infection, it will spread to the other eye. My doc gave me drops to put in, and they work great. We also do the massage when it gets goopy. I would wait till a well visit, or go if it gets really nasty, and spreads to the other eye.

It is very easy for the blocked tear duct to get an infection because the tears are not draining properly. If you notive alot of green/yellow mucus then it probably has an infection and you need to go the dr to get some eye drops or ointment to clear it up. My son had this and he had to have both tear ducts probed when he was about 14 months. Not too sure if it really worked or not, whenever he gets a cold they get really bad again. But also try the massage to see if it will clear without the surgery.

After reading this thread a little bit earlier today - I called the Nurses line today because my daughters eye (right) has been watery and as of late she has been rubbing it really hard and there has been green puss in the corner of her eye and yesterday morning it was really matted.....so the nurse said she should be seen. So tomorrow we are going to the DR to have this checked out. (No it's not pink or red....either so pink eye isn't an issue??)

My DS had this too for a little while. By the time we went to the DR it had cleared up. I read and did some research and I learned it is fairly common and some babies have this until a year old.

I called my doctor anyway. Not that I didn't trust all of you ladies, but you were all right. She said to massage the duct on the nose and put warm wash cloths over it if he allows me to. It looks kind of gross, but I just keep wiping it. Thanks for the tip about swimmers ear, I thought his ear looked a little wet when he got up from his nap.
