View Full Version : Bad Shoes

I wore a bad pair of shoes for a couple of months.. they seemed fine but messed up my left foot! On the outside edge, that bump part that sticks out hurts anytime I wear shoes that rub against it. I have to wear sandals a lot or find a wider shoe. For athletic shoes I have to find mesh ones that are stretchy or the leather will bother it (it was caused by athletic shoes).

Does anyone have any advice on this or if it will ever get better on its own? It's just such a pain.. and it happened several years ago and of course I never wear those shoes. Any advice?

Have you ever found any good, extra-wide shoes to try? I have very, very wide feet also (I wear either W, WW, extra-wide, or 2E or 4E, depending on the shoe/company), so it's been hard to find shoes that fit - usually for athletic shoes, I've had much better luck with men's shoes than womens, but also recently found an online shoe-store that has those extra-wide sizes. (I'd post a link, but it's against HealthBoards rules) But, if you do a google search for "extra wide shoes" or "new balance shoes" you'll find a few sites that offer them. They are expensive :( but worth it, I think.

Have you ever asked a doctor about it, or seen a podiatrist?

Good luck!

it sounds like you have a bunion.. you may want to consult a podiatrist. They also sell cushions for the outside of the foot. I had that problem with my left foot.. couldn't find shoes wide enough to fit my foot because of the bone sticking out and the only way to fix it was surgery.. I'm not saying surgery is your only option since I haven't seen your foot, but either way I would suggest consulting a podiatrist.

Thanks for the advice! It isn't bad enough where I think I would need surgery, but I do believe I have a bunionette. Has anyone tried those bandaid like padded things you put over a bunion that you can find at drugstores? I'm thinking about trying one. My feet aren't wide.. and I have tried on wide shoes and my feet just kind of slide around bc they are a little big  .

My running shoes are Nikes and are luckily okay now.. they are made of mesh and stretch a lot on the sides. I haven't seen a podiatrist yet, but if those little pad thigns don't work i may do that so it doesn't get any worse.
