Let your body tell you. If you're thirsty, obviously drink :) Same with the high-fiber diet. If this is a new WOE for you, you will need extra water until your body's used to the change. You will know if you're not getting enough water with a high-fiber diet because you will suddenly be constipated (I found this out personally...funny how our bodies "talk" to us.)

Local temperature, humidity levels and personal activity levels play such large parts in this. I've never agreed with, "Drink X amount of water per day; any more or any less is bad" theories. I'm in the sweltering hot tropics. In the height of summer, most everyone I know has consumed 100 ounces of water by lunch/early afternoon. When the weather changes and it cools off, we drink less.

64 oz. is the general recommendation for everyone. I know many who are losing weight who aim at 128 oz. See what feels best for you.

There is such a thing as drinking too much water.
If you consume large amounts of water over the course of a day, blood plasma increases. As this happens, the salt content of the blood is diluted. At the same time you are losing salt by sweating. The amount of salt available to the body tissues decreases over time to a point where the loss interferes with brain, heart, and muscle function.
It's called hyponatremia. The symptoms generally mirror those of dehydration (apathy, confusion, nausea, and fatigue), though some people show no symptoms at all. If untreated, hyponatremia can lead to coma and even death. Drinking water is great, but don't overdo it in a day. More is not always better.

Use your thirst as a guide.

If the 64 ounces is what feels right for you, it probably IS.

Don't force water...water intoxication is dangerous. Just get enough.

do people drink more water because it fills them up more or does it actually have benefits to losing weight?

The first sign of dehydration is thirst. I wouldn't go overboard on drinking water. It is not the "cure all" for weight loss. But, I think drinking a good amount of water does help.

I'm guilty,
I preach to others bout drinking water and I'm guilty of not drinking it, I feel like I should follow my own advice,
I bet I have not drink a glass of water in two years.I never drink water, I drink tea or diet coke only, matter fact I can't remember the last time DRINK ANY WATER?
how would be a good start dinking water? I have a pretty good diet plan that seems to be working for me and I exercise on a bike and a health rider.I just never drink water?

I am pretty sure water helps boost your metabolism. I drink about 82 ounces a day.. if not more. It helps me feel full, and I can work out longer if I am drinking water. It also flushes out the sodium... and that helps me alot.

I was wondering the same thing. Water really doesn't fill me up long enough to stop me from eating more, yet it seems like you hear about a lot of people not changing one thing in their lifestyle except drinking lots of water and losing weight. I've been drinking average 80 oz a day for about a month and I haven't lost any weight, but maybe you need to drink more than that for weight loss to occur.
