I just had an xray because I have renal stone disease. After many procedures, I am finally stone free. However, the urologist said he is concerned because my ascending colon is showing up splotchy on xray when it should be clear. What can this be? I have had a problem with diarrhea..severe...3 times in 6 weeks, along with IBS symptoms for who knows how long. I have had a mild problem with external hemorrhoids since pregnancy( about 4 years), but the last few days it has been severe with bleeding from a hemorrhoid. I have an appt with the GI on the 15th, but I am worried! The only other symptom that I have is that I am always tired!!! Could this be cancer? I am only 31.

It's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. With your ibs, etc., that is probably the cause. One misconception is that colon/rectal cancer only strikes people after age 50. It is amazing how many young people in their late teens and early 20's have been diagnosed. I'm not saying this to scare you. It is just a fact that people need to know.

it could be, but it could not be. I had rectal cancer at 27, and I wasn't tired at all- I felt fine. So how you feel isn't necessarily an indication. IBS symptoms and colorectal cancer symptoms sometimes overlap, so I wouldn't jump to cancer if you have ibs. Good luck at the GI doctor, and if you're worried, see if you can get a colonoscopy. It's the only way to know for sure.
