View Full Version : Meaty baby food question..

I can't remember if I asked this question before so if I did, forgive me. lol I was just wondering if anyone knew if they made the meat type baby foods with just the meat or if they are always mixed with other things? We were told that at 6 months when we really start getting into the solid foods that we should be feeding DS meats. All I can ever find as far as meats go are mixtures of meats, veggies, rice, cheese.... you get my drift. None of them are just meats. If we are going to start them on meat at 6 months I'd prefer it was either just meat or meat and something he's at least had before. It seems funny to me that you're supposed to give them everything separate at first for allergies but then you give them a big mix of strange stuff all at once? Apparently this meat thing is a new thing at 6 months so maybe that's why they're made that way, or am I just not finding it in the stores here. If I can't find them I guess I'll have to make my own. I found one that's Chicken and Sweet Potatoes, and it's the only one that has all ingredients he's had other than chicken.

Thanx, weird question I know.

Hi~
Yes, Gerber makes baby food that is just meat. I work in a childcare center and take care of infants...one of the babies eats 1 jar of meat every day (along with everything else). They have chicken, turkey, ham, and beef. They are the teeny tiny jars. And they smell horrible! LOL. Smells like cat food. If I were you, I would just give your baby the mixed ones; pears and chicken, apples and ham, etc. I think he'll get just as much nutrition out of it and they probably taste a lot better. Hope this helps!! :)

I agree that the meat ones smell awful!! I chose not to give my kids meat in the jar. I waited until they were old enough to have it in table food form. DS didn't have any meat until almost 1 year of age.

I bought the just meat ones for DS and it was the only food he would never eat! I buy the chicken and apples and pears or turkey and whatever fruit and DD loves them. I agree with kiera that table form would probably be better.
