irishsue 02-02-2006, 07:55 PM i have both ms and fibromyalgia i have been reading alot lately about the leaky gut syndrome and fibro has anyone had any experience with it and if so how do you get diagnosis? :) Sponsor kirstee 02-07-2006, 01:05 AM Hi Irishsue: That's a good question. I'm not real sure how the diagnosis is made and might be an elimination of things that it is not (like fibro - LOL!). By any chance do you have hypothyroidism? People with this condition can sometimes suffer from leaky gut syndrome, and a lot of people with fibromyalgia have hypothyroidism. I wasn't sure by your post if you were concerned about having leaky gut problems or if you were just curious about the diagnosis. Blessings, Kirstee irishsue 02-07-2006, 09:25 PM Hi Kirstee Thanks for the reply I have been tested for hypothyroidism because I have all of the symptoms but the tests all seem to come back ok I was told by my chiro that he has done some research on this leaky gut syndrome and has alot of patients with fibro who have been found to have it I guess I'll have to ask him how to get diagnosed. You're idea is really good though I should try eliminating things Thanks alot Sue :) bilij 02-08-2006, 01:03 PM Hi Sue, welcome to the fibro board. We all love to hear from new folks, it adds so much to the discussions. This may sound dumb, but what is leaky gut syndrom and what are the sympthoms? I've never heard this before. I hope you are feeling better today. Bilij Glojer 02-08-2006, 01:18 PM Welcome Irish, I am hypothyroid and have fm, but I am like bilij not sure what leaky gut syndrome is. Glojer irishsue 02-08-2006, 05:05 PM what i am told and read about is that our bodies dont absorb nutrients and vitamins that eat they say our bodies react to not absorbing these nutrients by inflammation of all different parts of our body thus pain all over i am just starting the research and will update if i learn anything else take care Sue :) kirstee 02-11-2006, 07:46 PM Hi Irishsue: After responding to your post, I started to do some research on leaky gut. Whether this is true or not, I'm not sure, but one source said that all fibro sufferers probably have leaky gut and that is what causes their symptoms. I'm not sure I agree with this general analogy, but it started to make me think. I sure have to be careful what I eat or I have blow ups that really aggravate me. Could it be this leakygut thing? Doctors don't have the full story on fibromyalgia yet - I am thoroughly convinced of that. Kirstee ctheri 02-12-2006, 11:20 AM I've been reading up on a LOT of stuff to find a connection (and the best diet, I've been told about TONS that could help.. ) I've read that leaky gut is caused by Candiada (yeast)... A lot of the Fibro symptoms are ALSO A yeast overgrowth symptom, so maybe they are connected? After I finish the book(s) on yeast, I'll post an overview. By the way - they have also found that leaky gut is associated with ADD/ADHD/Autism in kids. The diet that my is on for Lupus, is (basically) just like the one in the Yeast book, and the diet my nephew is on for his aspergers(autism) is (basically) the same too. I'll finish researching before I post more.. . -Cindy kirstee 02-12-2006, 11:35 PM Cindy: My son has Asperger's! I'm anxious to hear what your post will say when you are finished with the book. The psychiatrist who treats him tried to wean him off of wheat which sometimes helps autism. But it didn't for my kid (or should I say man - he's 32 years old now). Kirstee Glojer 02-13-2006, 03:38 PM That is interesting about all fibro sufferers and leaky gut. Yes, please post any info you may find on this subject. Thanks for all your hard work researching.
