Hi, Everyone! I just started taking zoloft and i heard it causes people to gain weight. I was wondering if anyone knew the reasons why it does, and how much i should expect to gain.

Everyone has different side effects with each medication out there. I personally gained 70lbs with Zoloft, for what reason, I don't know. But don't let that discourage you from taking it. If you are really worried about weight gain, talk to your doctor and see if he/she can put you on something else that won't cause weight gain.

i've been on effexor for the past 4 months and i haven't gained an ounce (knock on wood, i guess). don't know about zoloft though.

Zoloft made me loose weight!

It is so individual with these drugs. What one gains on another loses on and yet as you have seen and yet another finds no change.
I did not gain on Effexor but I don't take it anymore.
I had been given Remeron for sleep and Fibromyalgia and I quit that too, now that is one that can really spike a weight issue.
It makes me sleepy but in a couple of hours I am up and really hungry---starving kind.
Talk about a real munchie syndrome!!!!!

I gained about 12 pounds on Remeron. But that's my body chemistry combined with the drug. I agree with everyone that it is individual. Give the drug a chance, and if the side effects prove to be unbearable there are others you can try.
