I believe I have an infection in my left big toe. It is swollen and sore. The podiatrist can't see me until Monday, Feb.6. Can anyone advise me on how to treat the toe until my appointment?

Jean C 02-03-2006, 02:42 PM I believe I have an infection in my left big toe. It is swollen and sore. The podiatrist can't see me until Monday, Feb.6. Can anyone advise me on how to treat the toe until my appointment? Jean C. Cupcake3 02-03-2006, 02:51 PM Soak in warm water and epsom salts. wakkochic17 02-03-2006, 11:15 PM ^ agreed.. I know your pain.. had that a few weeks back. In my case it was an ingrown toenail that caused the infection. Titchou 02-03-2006, 11:16 PM After soaking, if there is a white place (infection) by the edge of the toenail, clip it and then mash out the infection. Pour some peroxide on it, put a little neosporin and a bandaid. Soak morning and evening and try to continue to mash out the infection....and repeat the above. If you can handle it, clean out the dead tissue. Jean C 02-03-2006, 11:30 PM I appreciate everyones replies and suggestions. But the swelling and inflamation is lower in the toe, by the joint. I may have cut too much nail off due to fungus. Perhaps it is something other than infection. I didn't have an injury. Titchou 02-04-2006, 08:34 AM May be gout if it's in the joint...or arthritis.....or what's known as turf toe/runner's toe/tennis toe. Can be caused by those lovely high heels we ladies like to wear. I had it and ended up with surgery...good as new now.... |
