I was just diagnosed with this lovely condition lol. I had been having a lot of issues for over two years now and finally got to a doc. that said this is what you got. I guess I have alot of questions, I had never heard of fibromylagia in my life until two days ago when they said it was one of the many things wrong with me. I know my one major question is will I have to be on the anti- depressent forever? When do you start feeling better? And has any one had gi and female issues because of it? See I also have andomyosis, nerve damage in my uterus area and some really sucky gi issues. I 've been reading lots of posts on here and I have alot of the same stuff with me. I was also wandering if anyone is on Elavil I think thats the name of the anti- depressent that they gave me or something like that. I haven't started yet I just dropped off the prescription so I'm just trying to get the low down before I begin. Sorry I'm full of so many questions but like I said this is all new to me, and you know when a doc. hits you with like 3 or more things wrong your not sure what to ask about what at the time. I will take any help, advice or support I can get since around here no one really knows what to say to me but I'm sorry. Oh one more question does anyone get really bad dizzy spells? These just started but they are bad enough that I have to still really still for like 15-20 mins. before they pass. Thanks for listening and answering if you do.

Hi kerrie,
Sorry you have this diagnosis. The elavil the doc gave you is also called amitriptyline and it seems to be the standard most docs use for treating fibromyalgia. Some people have very good luck with it. It is to help you sleep and I think for pain. I could not use it, it makes me have a heavy hangover in the morning.
Some people have had GI problems, mostly all I have is the IBS. I do however have the dizzy spells and I have read where others do too.
Fibro is an interesting disease, but it can help you to find out who you are and where you want to be in your life. With fibro you learn to make decisions about your life based on what is important to you and not based on what you feel is a social obligation or something that you need to do because everyone is going, etc. In other words, I guess what I am trying to say is it makes you think and enjoy life so much more than before. Like they say you don't sweat the small stuff.
There are wonderful people here with lots of great info and support. The key to successful treatment is finding a good doc who listens to you and treats you accordingly. The people on this board have some great tips about that. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi Kerrie,
Not much that I can add to what Glojer said. Just welcome, hope you enjoy the love and deep friendships we all share here. You will find no matter where you hurt, that you are NOT ALONE. Someone here has had or still has the same pain. That's not to imply that we are all just a pain >giggle> At least I"M NOT  hehe. I'm probablly the BIGGEST PAIN and that's ok too. :)
Anyway Welcome, enjoy and learn. :D

Hi Kerrie. I've been recently diagnosed myself. I don't get any female problems but I certainly do have GI issues. Gerd being the main problem. I also suffer from extreme anxiety because of the fibro. My rheumatologist gave me Elavil also, but I couldn't take it. My body is so intolerant to most meds. I seem to get side effects with alot of meds. I do take Xanax when I need it though at a very low dosage. As far as dizzy spells, yes I get those too. Not really the room-spinning kind though. I seem to sometimes feel off-kilter for a few seconds when I change my focus from one thing to another. It's wierd. I have so many symptoms I feel crazy sometimes. I'm really trying to get myself under control though. That will be my first step with accepting that I have fibro. Take care!

Hi Kerrie,
Sorry to hear that you have Fibro. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.(well maybe for a day or two)heheheheh. As far as Elavil I couldn't take it. Others can. I have tried LOTS of different anti depressants, and I am currently taking Cymbalta. Love it!!!! It helps me with the pain, and sleep issues.
With Fibro there are LOTS of other lovely things we have. No two people are alike, with problems or meds that help them. It's kind of trial and error with each of us. I hope that you can find meds that work for you, and get some relief with the pain. Just keep moving. That's really important. I swear if I stopped working and excercising I would never get up again. Good luck. Hang in there.

Dear Ladies,
Thank you all so much for your advice and wisdom. I took my anti-depressent for the first time on Saturday. I couldn't get up on Sunday so I tryed again last night this morning same thing luckly my husband called to check on me and woke me up for work. So tomorrow it's back to the doctors and I think I'll request a new med. I can't live with being doped up all day. I am truely greatful for all of you, it's nice to know that I'm not alone and crazy.
