Last Sunday I was rushed to the hospital with my first kidney stone which is 5mm. Which really doesnt seem all that big considering all the research that I have been doing online. I guess I must just have some small tubes, anyways... The sucker hasnt moved and is stuck halfway in my ureter causing much pain. So my question is I have to go for Surgery on Tuesday morning and my Dr will decide the morning of, depending where the xray shows, which procedure he will do either Lithotripsy(shockwave) or Ureteroscopic (through the bladder). Has anyone had either one of these done? How bad is it? Any feedback on what to expect?? I am really starting to get nervous..I just got done reading a scary website about how painful kidney stone removal is!!
Please Help!!

Thanks in advance

Hi: I've had Litotrypsy many times and was asleep for it, thus no pain. My Dr. then went up with a basket to remove the pieces. I'm not sure if that's what you referring to or not. You could ask the Doc for a few pain pills to take afterwards, if needed. Don't worry about it. It's not that bad. Good luck. I know how painful stones are when stuck in the ureter. Sue

Thanks for the info :)
Went in today and it was too far down to have the lithotripsy so my Dr had to do the uteroscopy. I think that it went fairelly well. I don't really have all that much pain, only when I go to the bathroom. I was kinda scared to have this one compared to the lithotripsy, but everything turned out not so bad after all.
