Yes, dieting is hard, but for me maintaining is even harder!! It seems after having dieted for so long, I don't even know how to eat normally anymore, I am either strictly dieting, or I am majorly binging. Since about 4 days ago I've been trying to maintain, but this is what happened. The first day I completely binged, ate every snack in sight, and ended up at roughly 4000 calories I'm guessing, so the next two days I felt like I had to make up for it so I dieted strictly and ate around 1100 each day. After that I felt okay again and tried to eat normally today. BUT I ended up binging again, and this time it was a complete disaster, I had 3 huge meals with many many snacks. When i think back I am pretty sure I had around 5000 calories. I feel so frustrated with myself! I don't know what to do. How can I start to eat NORMAL portions without either counting every calorie or eating absolutely everything?? I really really need some help :o

I feel the same way. It seems like once you do lose weight its hard to figure out what a good balance is to keep it off. I am kind of having the same problem, except I am still trying to lose weight. I have the hardest time on the weekends. I am fine during the week and eat like I should but when the weekend is here I eat so horribly. Then, I get frustrated with myself because I think I should be a lot smaller but thats not going to happen eating bad during the weekends. As far as a solution, I don't really have one. What was your caloric intake when you were dieting? For dieting I have to stay around 1500.

when i was dieting i ate 1200 calories a day. I don't know how to maintain...and I haven't QUITE reached my goal, I just wanted to "take a break" for a week and maintain my weight but I see that it's not going to happen. So I guess I will continue dieting and counting calories because it seems that's the only way I know how to eat now. :(

also, i can relate with the weekends. Weekdays are nice and routine and I find it easier to also stick to my dieting routine. But weekends, when I don't really have anything to do, I just sit in the dining room and pig out until I'm completely full and feel disgusting. sigh.

try to keep busy, do some exercise if your able? try not dewelling on the fact that your hungry, if you keep your mind busy then you kinda trick your brain that your not hungry and you eat less/and you remember omg I have not eatten a thing today, but the thing here would be to eat and eat sensible, feel that you have rewarded yourself by staying true to your diet or health plan.
Its a hard thing to do change your eatting habbits or diet or portion control,
like Dr Phil said don't call it dieting, call it a change in the way you live/or a change in your way of life.

I count calories and I eat what I want with some exceptions...the thing thats hard on me is I get to eat things I love but its like all of a sudden the portion size is like next to none.
so I use a smaller plate what the heck...lol

Winnie,
Don't guess, COUNT!

Since you were able to count 1200 calories it is childsplay to continue to count...just raise the number to 2,000 (or 1,800...whatever works for you.)

I am more or less maintaining...maybe losing a pound a month...if I lose no more, I can live with it.
But I will keep my calorie note book going until the day I slip into my final coma! I don't want the 39 pounds to come back...EVER.

Remember the dieter's mantra: "If you always eat what you always ATE, you'll always weigh what you always WEIGHED!"

This is the Problem with "Dieting" Your Diet right now should be more or less the same as it was while you were losing weight. At most you should only be adding 2-300 more calories to your daily intake.

Eat the same way you were before but jsut give yourself a few bigger portions. If you dont keep eating this way you will most likely just gain everything back.
