I like to know if I can get 2 statistics here,
1) How many people are found who have colon cancer and have no any symptoms and no family's colon cancer history in United States.?
2) How many people do get an accident (perforation) after he/she did a colonoscopy procedure?

I will do the colonoscopy tomorrow, I have no symptoms and no family colon cancer’s history, but my primary doctor push me to do because I am 55 years old. He said I should at least 10 years do once and if I can do once in 5 years will be better. If I can get these 2 statistics, I can compare with the risks next time.

Thanks!

Well I had no family with bowel cancer and the only symptoms I had originally was blood in my stools. I had a colonoscopy done, and a mass was found. I was booked in to have surgery but yes perforated before the op. I dont believe it was from the colonoscopy tho.
Hope this helps.
Take care

I had no symptoms or family history when last year my Dr. said the same thing--time to have a colonoscopy done (I was 57 and had never had one).

They found a cancerous polyp, and I had a resection shortly thereafter. The cancer had started to go through the wall of the colon--so it was caught just in time.

I am soooo glad my Dr. told me to get checked.

I too had rectal bleeding which was attributed to crohn's for a long time. My Grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 55. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer at age 32.

A colonoscopy is a walk in the park compared to surgery, radiation and chemo! The GREAT thing about colorectal cancer is that it has a high cure rate IF caught in time! I don't know stats but I think any perforation during a colonoscopy is very rare.

Good luck!
