My fibro is getting continually worse. Pain meds just doesn't seem to work very well anymore. I'm not sure if Mayo would have any answers or new treatments, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Sponsor DecLady 02-06-2006, 07:47 AM I haven't gone there...but have you read their website explanation of FMS? I thought it was scary how they almost seemed to dismiss how painful and debilitating FMS is for many of us. If my memory is correct...their only real solutions online were exercise...and some tricylclics, like elavil! Not much of a solution from my experience! builder 02-06-2006, 07:49 AM Boy , that is a joke. Elavil is one onf the worst drugs I've ever taken. DecLady 02-06-2006, 07:51 AM Rstarre, I agree! I know some folks have some success with it...but I hated it! caused me LOTS of side effects..none of them good. The rheumie I went to said he thought it was a terrible drug as well and said he never prescribed it! April414 02-06-2006, 06:59 PM I'v taken lavil for a little over a month and I have to say it helps me sleep. Of course I take all sorts of other stuff to for a variety of things. And I have to admit to Ambian CR helped me sleep better, but I can afford the Elavil. April Glojer 02-06-2006, 07:37 PM Declady that was some interesting info, thanks. I also agree with the elavil thing, I can't take it. Just give me my ambien and I hope someday to try the ambienCR. Glojer kirstee 02-07-2006, 12:57 AM RStarre: Have you tried Guafenesein? This medication helped me a lot. I was tearing my hair out with the little energy I had left when I decided to see the doctor that prescribes it in my area. I'm glad I visited him. Blessings, Kirstee DecLady 02-07-2006, 08:05 AM April, I thought the elavil was working great for the first several months...I slept thru the night...I didn't have too much pain etc....BUT, after about 6 months..I had terrible periodontal issues due to the dry mouth at night, I gained weight-about 20 pounds, and I started waking up repetatively...got to be between 8 and 11 times a night- at first my doc upped the dosage...Then he tried me on Nortriptaline...similar drug...after about 9 months...I just said ENOUGH. I use valerian root when I really have trouble sleeping...and although I KNOW I don't sleep as well as I "should"..I like that I don't take a drug for it either! My only fibro drug these days..other than a bunch of vitamins...is vicoden for pain. Not a perfect world...but I don't want to take something just because they don't know what else to try! builder 02-07-2006, 08:34 AM RStarre: Have you tried Guafenesein? Blessings, Kirstee You had a doctor prescribe it? Can't this be bought online without a script? How long did it take to work for you? |
